Food is the foundation of Seva Food Bank as an organization — but it’s the community support that enables us to keep our doors open and serve those in need. Hosting a Seva Day is a unique way to celebrate a special event or honour the memory of a loved one while making a meaningful impact.

Why Host a Seva Day

  • Support essential operations. It costs $500 a day to keep Seva Food Bank’s doors open. Your contribution directly supports our facilities and daily operations.

  • Celebrate special moments. Mark a special event or honour the memory of a loved one through a meaningful contribution, such as a birthday or anniversary.

  • Engage first-hand. Spend time with our clients and learn about the work we do to combat hunger and promote self-reliance.

  • Get recognized and spread the word. We can share your Seva Day experience on social media to recognize your valued contribution, if you wish, to amplify your impact.​​

How to Host A

Personal Seva Day

  1. Make a Donation: Contribute $500 to cover the cost of a full day’s operations at Seva Food Bank.

  2. Schedule Your Seva Day: Choose a date that works for you and provide us with basic details through this Form. Our team will be in touch to confirm the details with you before publishing details online.

  3. Engage and Learn: On your Seva Day, if you choose to visit the Food Bank, you will receive a tour, learn about our programs, and spend time helping our clients.

  4. Share Your Experience: If desired, we can highlight your Seva Day on our social media platforms to acknowledge your support.

How to Book a Corporate Seva Day

What to Expect on Your Corporate Seva Day

  • Scheduling: We work with your schedule to find a suitable weekday time for your team.

  • Group Size: Ideal for teams of 5-15 people, participating in activities for 2-3 hours.

  • Arrival and Setup: Volunteers sign forms for confidentiality, liability, and image release upon arrival.

  • Orientation: Start with a short overview and tour, including training and tips.

  • Activities: Your team will break into smaller groups to volunteer, such as organizing and repackaging items in our warehouse.

  • Celebrate: Recognize your company or a special individual on your team (think birthday or. Capture and share the experience.

FAQ - Seva Day
  • What should I do if I am visiting the food bank for the first time or if I need an emergency hamper?
    You can walk in anytime between 4pm-7:30pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays, or from 11am-2pm on Fridays. Our team will be available to assist you with intake and provide an emergency hamper consisting of 7-10 days worth of food.
  • What happens when I arrive?
    To add a new question go to app settings and press "Manage Questions" button. On your first visit to the food bank, you will be asked to fill out an intake form, and share information about your situation including family members, income, and expenses.Identification and proof of address for all household members is required on your first visit. Documents should also be presented on a yearly basis.
  • What is the difference between the two locations?
    There is no difference between the two locations. They provide the same programs and services and are even staffed by the same team of people.
  • What if I am outside of the service area?
    On your first visit to one of our food bank locations, you should never be denied food; however if you live outside our catchment area, you will be given a referral to the food bank that serves you.
  • Do you share my information with anyone?
    Personal information is always kept confidential, and is used to better understand our client’s circumstances, and to advocate on their behalf. Personal information is not shared with other organizations outside of Seva Food Bank’s network or with the government, including Ontario Works or Citizenship and Immigration Canada.
  • How much food will I get?
    Seva Food Bank provides a 7-10 days’ worth of food, once per month, to individuals and families who live in our Mississauga catchment area: Malton – 2832 Slough St (L4V, L5S, L4T, L5T, L5P) Wolfedale – Unit 10-3413 Wolfedale Rd (L5B, L5C)
