Seva Food Bank To Hold Kirtan Darbar On Sunday October 6th At New Malton Location

As the Seva Food Bank plans to expand into Malton, it is holding a Kirtan Darbar (Sikh prayer ceremony) to inaugurate its new location. It will take place on Sunday October 6th, from 12:00 – 4:00pm at 2832 Slough Street, Mississauga, ON.

“We are honoured and blessed to expand into Malton in the new year,” says board member, Amarpreet Kaur Ahluwalia. “While continuing to focus on food security, our new facility will also serve as a hub connecting community partners to address the issues of poverty reduction and economic renewal.”

The first phase of construction on the Malton site will begin in late-October and continue through to the rest of the year. “At the same time, we’re convening with community leaders and members in Malton to co-create the programs and services we’ll be launching in 2014” commented recently appointed Executive Director Daven Seebarran.

Various local musicians will be performing kirtan (singing of Sikh hymns) at the event, including Bhai Onkar Singh (Brantford), Bibi Guneet Kaur, Bhai Harpreet Singh, Bhai Jagjit Singh and Gurmeet Singh.

The Seva Food Bank is an initiative of Sikhs Serving Canada, a registered not-for-profit organization whose mission is to positively impact local communities by acting on the basic Sikh tenets of sarbat da bhalla (the well being of all) and seva (selfless service). Our existing location on Wolfedale Rd services up to 400 families each month, distributing over 25,000 pounds of food.
